5. Low energy and low maintenance

Learn more about BioGill Advantages

Low sludge output

BioGills can create an active and sustainable biological treatment process in your plant, in effect converting liquid TSS to gas and environmentally friendly biomass.

Resilient to changes in the waste stream

As BioGills hold the culture in the gill network, quick increases in inflow volumes do not wash away your treatment culture. BioGills are also resilient to damaging substances that may be introduced to your system such as petro carbons and other types of fats and oils.

Effective de-nitrification

Total nitrogen is reduced on average by 80% plus. The BioGills naturally have an oxic and anoxic treatment phase converting ammonias to nitrates and then nitrates to nitrogen gas.

Low odour

Effluent movement is contained within the enclosed bioreactors. The bacteria and fungi in the biomass are extremely efficient and quick at removing the sulphides and volatile fatty acids that create the odour problems. Movement of air in and out of the BioGill is small, reducing odour spread.

Low energy and low maintenance

BioGills work on low energy pumps and simple gravity and there is no need for high energy consuming aeration technologies. With minimal to zero maintenance on the treatment cores and very low energy consumption BioGills are inexpensive to operate.
