Learn more about BioGill Advantages

Low sludge output

BioGills do not create a large sludge output that is difficult and costly to dispose. The sludge that is created is usually of an environmentally friendly nature and can be a beneficial fertiliser for your resort gardens.

Effective removal of fats and oils

Commercial kitchens have a higher percentage of fats and oils in the waste stream. Whereas many other systems suffer from fouling or “mass-kill” of the biomass, BioGills can successfully treat waste streams that contain fats, oils and grease.

Effective de-nitrification

Total nitrogen is reduced on average by 80% plus. BioGills naturally have an oxic and anoxic treatment phase converting ammonias to nitrates and then nitrates to nitrogen gas.

Quick and easy disinfection for reuse

The discharge water from BioGills has low turbidly that allows for an easy final disinfection process if required. This creates numerous reuse opportunities such as subsurface irrigation of the resort gardens.

Low odour

Effluent movement is contained within the enclosed bioreactors. The bacteria and fungi in the biomass are extremely efficient and quick at removing the sulphides and volatile fatty acids that can create odour problems. Movement of air in and out of the BioGill is small, reducing odour spread.

Low energy and low maintenance

With minimal to zero maintenance on the treatment cores and very low energy consumption, BioGills are inexpensive to operate.
