Learn more about BioGill Advantages
Effective treatment of high BOD
BioGills are effective in treating high nutrient rich influent including waste streams with Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) in excess of 6000. Most alternative technologies struggle to treat high BOD effluent as little biological treatment is possible in submerged cultures due to the lack of oxygen available to the treating bacteria. This is never a problem in the above ground BioGill systems.
Tolerant to poor CNP ratio waste
BioGills operating with nutrient rich waste streams grow a predominantly fungal biomass. This cellular make-up allows BioGills to consume waste streams that cannot be treated effectively by a submerged bacterial culture due to the lack of nitrogen and phosphorus.
Low sludge output
Disposing of a large sludge output can be difficult and costly. BioGills can be configured where most, if not all the sludge is cannibalised alleviating any major sludge issue.
Effective removal of fats and oils
Whereas many other systems suffer from fouling or “mass-kill” of the biomass, BioGills successfully treat waste streams that contain fats, oils and grease along with other difficult to treat components of wastewaters.
Low aerosols
BioGill systems produce very little aerosols that can cause contamination in the manufacturing process.
Low operating costs
With minimal to zero maintenance on the treatment cores and very low energy consumption, BioGills are inexpensive to operate.
